The Urawa Racecourse is one of the horse racing facilities under the chiho keiba (地方競馬). It is organized annually by the Saitama Prefecture Urawa Racing Association.

Chiho keiba or regional horse racing means that the horse racing events are organized by the local governments. It is ruled by the National Association of Racing (NAR) in Japan. NAR is locally known as Chiho Keiba Zenkoku Kyokai (地方競馬全国協会). However, this does not mean that NAR handles the races. This just means they govern the local governing bodies that host the races.

The Urawa Racecourse is located at Saitama City in Japan. It is surrounded by residential houses. It can also be found easily because it is located at the capital of Saitama Prefecture in Japan.

You can also watch and wager on the races easily because the entrance fee at the facility is only ¥100.

 

 

How to go to Urawa Racecourse?

 

If you want to go to the Urawa Racecourse in Japan, you have two options: you can get there by walking or by taking the bus. It is located precisely at 1-8-42 Oyaba, Minami-ku, Saitama-shi, Saitama 336-0016 Japan.

If you want to walk, you can get to Urawa Racecourse within 15 minutes when you take the East Exit of JR Minami-Urawa Station.

You can also take the Kokusai Kogyo Bus heading to the West Exit of Warabi Station (Warabi Eki Nishiguchi) at the East Exit of JR Minami-Urawa Station. You can get off at the bus stop in front of Urawa Racecourse within five minutes.

However, there are also free shuttle buses between Urawa Racecourse and at East Exit of JR Minami-Urawa Station when there are races held at the facility.

 

The Race Track of Urawa Racecourse

The race track of Urawa Racecourse in Japan is a left-handed dirt course. This means horses make left turns or move in a counterclockwise direction along the racecourse.

The dirt course is one of the most common track surfaces used in flat racing. This is because it provides the horses with the perfect condition to complete the racetrack within minutes. 

However, this kind of track can also be a difficult condition of the race. This is because the material used in Japan dirt courses are sand. Originally, it was soil like in most countries but it was changed because of the rainy weather in the country. It is easier to drain water out of the sand. Dirt tracks in central horse racing are sea sand while local racetracks use river sand.

The dirt track of Urawa Racecourse has a circumference of 1,200 meters. It also has a length of 220 meters and a width of 16 to 21.5 meters.
